The McGaw Care Center in Evanston — never retire your spirit
The McGaw Care Center in Evanston is part of the continuum of senior living options available at Westminster Place. It is home to those who need short- or long-term care. Evanston residents, as well as those from neighboring towns such as Winnetka, Wilmette and Glenview, can also benefit from services here. For some, it's a short stay for rehabilitation following hospitalization.
For others, it's a decision to receive more specialized skilled nursing or memory care. And because Westminster Place is a continuing care retirement community, residents can receive care at the McGaw Care Center while a spouse or loved one remains in their independent living or assisted living residence. Quality of care is as important as quality of life
At the McGaw Care Center, we blend close supervision with the latest technology to keep residents safe and secure. Our campus has 24-hour security with cameras at each entryway and in public areas. Our commitment to continually enhance the quality of our services and programs, and to focus on the satisfaction of the residents who choose to live in our communities is further reflected by our accredited status from CARF/CCAC. Our staff is Medicare-certified in skilled nursing, and home health services, and we are proud that the McGaw Care Center has earned five-star ratings from www.Medicare.gov.
Our commitment to continually enhance our reputation in the Chicago area for extraordinary senior health care services comes from paying very close attention to the quality of life for our patients and to the concerns and questions of their families.
Our health care services include:
- Medical Services
A full-time medical director, who is a board-certified internist with extensive training in geriatrics, leads health services. He makes an important contribution to the delivery of care on all our campuses.
- Professional Nursing Care
Our professional nursing staff is specialized in the care of older adults. Registered nurses are on duty on each floor, 24 hours a day. They lead an interdisciplinary team in delivering resident care, which may include medication, rehabilitation and nutrition.
- Restorative Nursing
A rehabilitation nurse leads this program, working with a team to address the specific restorative needs of residents. A nursing assistant works several days a week with the resident to continue exercises and strengthening techniques.
- Hansen Clinic
Residents appreciate the convenience of seeing our physicians, in addition to a range of specialists in the clinic. Other services include routine laboratory testing, x-ray and EKG capabilities.
- Pharmacy
A full-service pharmacy, with licensed pharmacists and pharmacy assistants, is located on the lower level of the McGaw Care Center and is available to all residents on campus.
- Rehabilitation
Westminster Place offers one of the most progressive rehabilitation programs for older adults in the area. Everything in this program promotes independence. Residents who enter a rehabilitation program may be recovering from a stroke, heart attack or orthopedic surgery. Immediately, the team develops a comprehensive rehabilitation plan that includes physical, occupational and speech therapy, plus restorative nursing.
- Respite services
There are times when those responsible for the care of a family member at home need relief from the demands of caregiving. Our respite program invites families to let us care for your family member for as few as four days to as long as a month or more.
- Home health services
We provide an array of services designed to continue your rehabilitation after hospitalization or a stay in health care, and to strengthen your independence as you recover at home. Services include skilled nursing from registered nurses, assistance with personal care from home health aides, and rehabilitation therapy from physical, occupational and speech therapists as ordered by your physician.
- Supportive Services
Our full-time social workers and chaplains are available for social, emotional and spiritual support.
